| Many of the phones on the current market have WAP compatibilities.
Hardly any of the phones on the current market don’t have
any WAP capabilities.
WAP is by no means, works on all the handsets the same. Different
phones have different capabilities such as image formats,
sound formats and the type of browser the phone is operating.
The new technology in the mobile industry is the Symbian Operating
System.
This advanced operating system enables features on your phone
to be very like ones on your personal computer such as a mainstream
Internet browser called Opera (the Symbian version), Realplayer,
ICQ instant messaging and more. So your phone can interact
like a computer. Phones that operate using Symbian take up
a minor share of the mobile network. The majority of phones
uses their manufacturers own operating system. This is where
whoever has been developing WAP sites has probably encountered
problems.
As already touched upon many phones will only allow certain
graphic or sounds formats. So when developing WAP sites there
is an obvious problem. Also, many browsers differ in the versions
of WML/WAP it uses (e.g. 1.0 to 1.4 and son on). This is a
problem many WAP developers have encountered and have used
various methods in getting around it.
Once all phones starts using the same Operating System then
in my view, WAP can evolve and become even more popular.
